General Bowling Tips

In no particular order, here are some general tips that have worked for me.

Eye Contact

Keep your eyes focused on your lane spot. Keep your head steady during the approach (like marathon runners do) and don't block your eye line with the ball or your arm.

Chin Position

Raise your chin before your first step and keep it parallel to the floor throughout the approach. Keeping your head back prevents your shoulders from getting too far in front of you during your approach.

Synchronizing Your Approach to Music

When you are bowling a good game, it is normal for your heart rate to speed up. An important step in improving the high-end of your game is to synchronize your approach independent of your heart beat. I've found that synchronizing to a well-known song works best. Even when your heart is pounding, the song still plays at the same rate.

The song should have a regular beat that matches your steps on the lane. I don't recommend rock songs because they tend to speed up too easily. Try something classical or maybe easy listening music.

This simple tip has been worth about ten pins to my average. A quarter of my games are now over 220 and I'm hitting the 240-260 range more consistently. I could not have bowled 290 without it.
